Mr Macdonald Dubem.
Branch Manager
Zenith Bank (NIG) Ltd.
Idumota Branch
Delta state Nigeria.
I am mr. Macdonald Dubem,The Branch Manager of Zenith Bank Nigeria
Limited,Idumota Branch, delta state Nigeria. I have an urgent and
very
confidential business proposition for you. On December, 1997, a
Canadian Oil
consultant/contractor with the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation, Mr.
Barry Kelly made a numbered time (Fixed) Deposit for twelve calendar
months,
valued at US$11,500,000.00 (Eleven Million Five Hundred Thousand
United State
Dollars) in my branch. Upon maturity, I sent a routine notification
to his
forwarding address but got no reply.
[OK we couldn't inflict this formatting on you indefinitely.]
After a month, we sent a reminder and finally we discovered from his contract employers, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation that Mr. Barry Kelly died from an automobile accident. On further investigation, I found out that he died without making a WILL, and all attempts to trace his next of kin was fruitless. yeah yeah yeah
This sum of US$11,500,000.00 is still sitting in my Bank and the interest is being rolled over with the principal sum at the end of each year. No one has ever come forward to claim it.
According to Nigerian Law, at the expiration of 5(five) years, the money will revert to the ownership of the Nigerian Government if nobody applies to claim the fund. Consequently, my proposal is that I will like you to stand in as the next of kin to Mr. Barry Kelly so that the fruits of this old man's labour will not get into the hands of some corrupt government officials. [That would be a shame.] This is simple, I will like you to provide immediately your full names and address so that the Attorney will prepare the necessary documents and affidavits which will put you in place as the next of kin. blah blah blah
The money will be paid into your account for us to share in the ratio of 65% for me and 30% for you and 5% be used in settling taxation and all local and foreign expenses. There is no risk at all as all the paperwork for this transaction will be done by the Attorney and my position as the Branch Manager guarantees the successful execution of this transaction.
blah blah blah
Please observe utmost confidentiality, and be rest assured blah blah I do urgently await your response or reach me through my confidential and private phone 234 80 23126898.
Best regards,
mr macdonald dubem.

Dear Mr. Dubem:

I am Count Ludwig von Carabos, the only brother of the late departed Barry Kelly. He changed his name when he emigrated to Canada.

I am truly shocked and saddened to hear that you are the repository of my dear brotherŐs wealth. After his tragic death in that car crash, we made vast efforts through the Nigerian government and other modalities to locate my brotherŐs body and his money. They could not find it.

Now we learn that you have somehow gained access to this money that rightfully belongs to our family. We are shocked and appalled that you have derelicted your duties as a banker and your ethics to rob a dead manŐs grave. This is a grave insult to the von Carabos family name and its honor!

The von Carabos family has lived on and owned the same land in Germany for 1000 years. The Von Carabos name is renowned throughout Europe for the excellence of our business, producing police interrogation equipment, which we sell to secret police agencies throughout the world. We are a family of impeccable honor and tradition. Your failure to immediately yield up this fortune to the familyŐs representatives at the time of my brotherŐs death is an insult to our honor and tradition!

Therefore, I am sending our familyŐs most trusted emissary, Kommandant Wilhelm Klink, and his aide, Sergeant Schultz, to Lagos International Airport as part of my team, which will include the family accountant, Arthur Anderson, the family lawyer, William Kunstler, and our retainers. As my familyŐs legal representatives, they will get to the bottom of this chicanery and recover our entire wealth. Any attempt by your organization to interfere with our just and legal claims will result in the strongest possible sanctions.

While Kommandant Klink recovers our money and the body of my brother, I will recover our familyŐs honor. The Von Carabos family has a long tradition of protecting its honor on the field! Therefore, I challenge you to a duel!

Under Code Duello, you may choose the location. As the challenging party, I choose the weapons. I will be bringing a set of Krupp pistols with me for this very purpose. With my seconds and representatives in attendance to ensure there is no chicanery, we will meet on the field of honor and settle honor.

We will meet in Lagos on June 27, at 3 p.m. We will proceed to Zenith Bank to settle the accounts in full, then to the cemetery to recover my brotherŐs body, and then to the duelling site. You will make yourself known to my team by holding up the following sign:

IAMAS
TUPIDC
ONMAN

That is the Carabos family motto, and it means, Ňfraudere est vivere.Ó That is how we shall know you from the other Nigerians in attendance.

We will settle this assault on the Carabos family tradition and this affair of honor. If you do not answer or appear, then you are indeed a coward, a mugu, and a bearer of shame and deceit, and we will attain justice for the family ourselves.

Sincerely,

Ludwig Von Carabos
