TWO: Why is a reputable global company like Chevron or Schlumberger using a free e-mail service to advertise a position and recruit candidates...let alone one not even based in the same country as themselves? And why bounce the e-mail through a server in Israel, of all things? [The cybercafe where the scammer was sitting (and he may not have bothered or known how to forge a message header) may get its network connection through an Israeli satellite reseller. Africa is mostly connected by satellite, through resellers in Britain, Israel, Sweden, the US and elsewhere. There are a few fiber optic lines - one in South Africa, one in Nigeria (not used much - yet). Thinking about that leads to contradictory thoughts: "Hooray! Fiber will be great for Nigerian development!" and "Holy Henry Abacha! If there's a lot of spam now..."] THREE: I've worked long enough as a recruiter to suspect that the proposed salary for these positions is outrageously out-of-sync with the current market value for a role like this -- even within the United States, let alone overseas (although this could be considered fiddling small change in comparison with some of their schemes, hundreds of thousands instead of the usual millions...perhaps they're a little low on cash these days?)
