In some earlier letters (I almost hope you have better things to do than wade through this corpulent corpus), Lads complained bitterly of the treachery of one probably mythical Patrice Miller of New York City, who abused their naive trust and vanished with 'their' 'money' (it's best to put everything they say in quotes).
