Jonah Varque (a Juan Fryzwidat imprint) is back!
JV springs from the vast cosmic intelligence that resulted in DOWN BY LAD.
He is also Floyd Pinque, who sent the gold-dust pic over five yrs ago (see The Gallery).

The scam is the same as ever, but the format is one we haven't seen for a long time. Scam-o-historians, jump in the WayBack machine and check out MISCHIEF'S A FOOT/BEND IT LIKE DANNY, DANNY THE FOOTBALLER, and THIS SCAMMING LIFE - the pathetic saga of a Lad who wanted to try out for Manchester United.

Franklin P.J. Appiah - scammer du jour
and in the blue trunks:
Jonah Vargue - a promoter and nobody's fool

Scamo folks-- Have never seen a boxing scam before in my 10 yrs of baiting. This is a first. But I am playing along with it.
To cut to the chase--he obtained my email address from a guyman guestbook, in which I said nothing about boxing..or little else.

Fake passports from the lads are coin of the realm..I have seen over 1,000 sent to me..the issue of a VISA is never taken into account until I broach the subject, in which case I am hit up for cash on that...MY reply on that is--and put this in scam101--is that YOU must prove to me that the USA Embassy will clear you for a visa. [Not up to me]. And i will NOT pay for your airfare until I see you have obtained said visa.

Note that 'Franklin' has yet to tell me the W/L records of the boxers....jeez...that is piss-poor even for a wanna-be Don-King-type boxing promoter.. (And Don K, himself a hustler, scammer, and convicted felon for murder in the 1960s). I like boxing--but that is it. But he thinks more, of course, so I play along..

Babahub appears to be a travel web site for Ghana - with some design issues.
The telephone numbers, & email addresses match the website.
The Chat account is listed as the main email contact for (a company called) Babahub in the Ghanaweb directory. Same telephone numbers.
The web site is listed in the Artists Against 419 Fake Bank Database, with some information about its (apparent) registrant.
Interestingly, the scammer keeps using info@babahub.com below.
Scamorama does not have the header. The ever-interesting 419 Eater does provide headers for (possibly) the same scammer, sent from Ghana.
So - is the scammer using an unintentional open mail relay at Babahub?
Or is Babahub involved in this?
Is the scammer actually Ghanaian?
It would take more investigation to find out.

Is there a real Franklin Appiah? Maybe lots. Maybe they grabbed the name off someone's web page. Appiah is a common name in West Africa. Mock not, lest ye be impersonated.

Dear Jonah,
Its warm reading correspondence from you. I will be happy to let you know our interest is in investing in fighters, Fighters which we have selected. One thing is the better the fighter, a combination of skill and motivation, the more lkely you will profit big from the fighter, especially if the fighter is youthful and has a great opportunity of working his way up to a championship bout like Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali,Mike Tyson.
We desire you to invest your time and resources in a boxer who is going to get there and stay there, we present to you these professional boxers, We hope we can reach a concensus so you can come to Ghana to see your fighters for yourself.
Jonah, most importantly we need to put up a camp for these boxers to seperate them from distractions and further aid their training. Our first priority if the gym which we reckon will fit on a 500-500 sq ft of land ,,,Logistics etc. I know our best shot is you ship the boxing equipments to Ghana when we are ready, we are very open for your advice as an international partner...
Most importantly Jonah, Lets Camp these fighters its gonna be to our future benefits. We need to put them on some contract of some sort to secure our investments, These boys are ready to be expoxed, so with a brief camping we scout for competitons and start making them productive hence experiencing the fruits of our investments.

HELLO MR APPIAH,

ALL THE BOXERS YOU NAMED--SUGAR RAY LEONARD, MUHAMMAD ALI, AND MIKE TYSON ARE ALL FROM HERE IN THE USA.
I CAN THINK OF A FEW FAMOUS BOXERS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES-- MARCEL CERDAN, LENNOX LEWIS, ROBERTO DURAN-BUT I CAN NOT THINK OF ANY FAMOUS BOXER FROM AFRICA WHO HAS EVER BEEN FAMOUS. BOXING IS A GREAT SPORT, BUT I AM A FAN OF AMERICAN BOXERS.

I CAN SEE THAT IN THE PICTURE THE BOXERS ARE IN A BOXING RING. YOU SAY THEY ARE PROFESSIONAL BOXERS, SO THAT MEANS THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR MONEY. AND THEY ARE REQUIRED BY BOXING RULES TO ALREADY HAVE HEADGUARDS, MOUTHGUARDS,BANDAGES, ETC.

INVESTING IN BOXERS IS A VERY RISKY BUSINESS HERE IN THE USA. MAYBE 1 BOXER IN 25,000 WILL EARN ENOUGH MONEY TO MAKE THE RISK WORTH-WHILE.

Hi Jonah,
There are enormous talents here in Ghana, are you willing to invest in the sport, why dont we try them with at least a match, because until then i think it will be unwise to write them off. We need internetional partners who can secure bouts for these boxers while earning money..

Sincerely,

Hello Franklin,

I do not understand what you mean when you say ****why don't we try them with at least a match****.

These gentlemen in the photos you sent are weight-ranked, so that means they are already in matches..However you did not include their individual won-loss records. So does this mean they just stand around for pictures in front of a boxing ring but do not box?

I am not able to come to Ghana, so there is no way I can see them fight unless they were here in the USA. .

Sincerely, Jonah

Hi Jonah,
Well you are right, you can't see how good these boxers can box, i hope i have sent you information about their weights, I would want us to take this project step by step,Firstly i would want you to make a sound investment with fruitful returns, i need you to have confidence in what you do with,
I will tell you a secret, there is one guy amongst all the squsd who virtrually motivates and to the extend train some guys.
I wish there is a way you can meet Samual Kojogah(The Lion). He fights in the light weight division, he is a real deal,he is a produce we can't allow to go waste,These boxers has boxed here in Ghana but the issue is they real challenges, Samuel Kojogah is a real talent. So are a couple of others. I will want us to take one Boxer at a time....
I wish there is a way you can meet The Lion, invite him to come over to the states, even if its a week then all your answers can be answered,i believe you can find some gym there for him to hang through your evaluation of him. Amongst the picture i sent yo you, he is the other boxer in brown t-shirt and in the group picture he is amongst the three boxers standing in front of the gym, he is the last of the 3boxers counting from left to right.

Mr Jonah, I believe this is the key and secret i have unvieled to you, I look to reading notes from you soon...

Sincerely,

hello franklin,

I have received your email and note the contents.

You are talking about me making a sound investment, but this will remain to be determined by me.

You told me the weight rankings, but not the W-L records.

I do not understand what you mean when you say you have unveiled a secret to me..This is boxing. No more no less.

Hello Jonah, We need you to support them with whatever possible to secure a visa, plus be responsible for travel expenses, ticket, accommodation, etc,

Thank You..

This is not conceptually different from the "I love you, buy me a ticket to your country so we can live together" format, or the "Since you can't come to my country to pick up the imaginary money, we'll hire an attorney to do it for you, but it will cost you" format.

If that is not clear, please re-visit the main page, the FAQ, etc.

Hello Franklin,

It is up to the US Embassy in Ghana to issue visas, not me.

I am willing to possibly invest in the boxing futures of these young men, but ONLY when they get here to the USA.
They are all obviously strong young men and they have the DESIRE to succeed in life. This means that they need to come up with the airfare and expenses to get here. A boxer who does not have the heart to make his dreams come true by hard work is always going to lose.

Sincerely, Jonah

[More to come? Or will "Franklin" hang up his gloves?]
