many a slip 'twixt cup and lip

Another adventure from The Foreign Office!

The Foreign Office have been turning out inspired intercontinental baits going back to 2002, such as THE SCAMMISH ARMADA, A REAL CHARLIE, and MEET ME IN SMEGAROON, and more recently You people promised to send the money today and HOW ARE THINGS IN MBALONGA?.

The Lads keep up with current events - this one opens with the 'refugee from a transition in power' modality, citing Qaddafi. As per Lad SOP, the money is being kept with a "security company", this time in Ghana. Standard scammer moves are highlighted.

Featuring
John Havens, senior Citibank official (not) (well, the real one is)
Cyrina Adams - scam-o-flunkey
William Dudley - Federal Reserve Bank of New York (again, not)

versus

Sir Charles Farnes-Barnes - QC of Sue, Grabbit & Runne
Cecily Farnes-Barnes - Sir Charles's good lady and assistant
Lonslo Tossov - ex-KGB, mainstay of the Foreign Office, posing as Western Union staffer
Tushie Meshuganah - QC, Sue, Grabbitt and Runne
Ilichy Miracsky - on loan from the Czech Secret Service, in a brilliant turn as British office assistant
and in a supporting role:
a number of Western Union slips

Dear Mr Havens,

I have only just returned home because the dinner after the Annual General Meeting of the Smegaroon Cricket Club went on till the wee small hours.

And I must confess that I am suffering from a shocking hangover after downing a raft of pina coladas during the rather boring speeches. So I shall stay in bed this morning until I have completely recovered.

However, I have my sturdy laptop and so to business - it is surely pointless paying western union to send money to Mrs Adams. I can send her a cheque on my personal current accountwhich costs nothing - or I can pop over to Canary Wharf myself on Monday morning and give her the cheque or indeed the cash.

Dear beneficiary,

Yesterday, I called the telephone no you gave me as the western union direct line and I was told that was a restaurant and no western union sport there. I also called the no you said is your mobile and I man answered. Madam, I just want to inform you that I don't have that kind of time wast. The only way to have this matter resolved is for you to go the western union and collect the payment slip from them, tell them to show which number is the MTCN and then send it to me. If you cannot do that, please do not worry to write me as I don't such time waste.

Go to the western union now and collect the slip.

Yours faithfully

Dear Mr Havens,

Please accept my sincere apologies. What with this mix-up and Charles still poorly and unable to continue finalising this business himself, my mind was in such a whirl that I was looking at your name and in error gave you the number of the Haven restaurant!

Again, my apologies - but I have better news. Yet again Mr Lonslo Tossov has assured me that the western union transfer was made and that he will resend you the MTCN number and any other details you require. Mr Tossov won't be in his office until later today but he has promised that he will attend to this matter this afternoon.

Yours sincerely,
MRS Cecily Farnes-Barnes

Result! The little worm must have actually phoned the Haven restaurant!

It required a great deal of persuasion but as a personal favour to me, Mr Lonslo Tossov of western union is sending you a copy of the western union receipt slip for the £610.50 which he sent to Mrs Adams last week.

This should arrive in your e-mail box either later today or tomorrow.

I should advise you that Mr Tossov is still extremely angry that you have questioned his personal integrity and indeed that of western union and that he has prepared documents about this business which will be sent to his solicitors, Messrs Sue, Grabbit and Runne, in the event of any further accusations.

Transfer fund valued $10,300,000.00

Dear beneficiary,

How are today? I regret to inform you that it seem that Mr. Lonslo Tossov ( the western union officer) is up to something. I strongly believe he is playing some kind of trick on you and myself. In the first place, you told me that you gave him the money to send on Tuesday last week been 6th of March, but from what I saw on the two different slips he sent to me, the transaction took place on 9th been Friday. So what on earth will he be doing with the money three day after you must have giving him to send.

Anyway, that is not the point am trying to make here. I have attached the two diferent western union slip he sent me for you to view so that you can understand very well the point I want to make here. The first slip Mr. Lonslo Tossov sent to me, the ten (10) digit MONEY TRANSFER CONTROL NUMBER (MTCN) was covered with a small white receipt which is the number needed to confirm the payment. I reported to you that he covered the MTCN and I also wrote him that he covered the MTCN which is important. I went further requesting from him that he should remove the white paper and send to me again. I also made it clear to him that he should type the MTCN number, include it on the email he will send me with new scanned copy of the western union slip.

Surprisingly, yesterday he sent me another scanned western union slip. He removed the small white receipt and cut off four (4) digit numbers out of the ten (10) digit MTCN numbers before sending to me. Now what am I going to do with MTCN that is not complete? Mr. Lonslo Tossov know too well that without the complete Ten digit MTCN, such payment cannot be confirm.

Mr/Mrs Charles Fortescue Farnes-Barnes, I took my time to explain all this so that you will understand that I am not the one delaying your transaction, rather the cause is Mr. Lonslo Tossov the western union officer.

I want to make it clear to you now, as we don't have much time to wast anymore, I demand that you ( Mr/Mrs Charles Fortescue Farnes-Barnes) go to the western union office, tell Mr. Lonslo Tossov to give you the western union slip. Before you go home with the western union slip, ask him what is the status of the transaction? to know if the fund is available to pick up or not because I don't trust him anymore. Tell him to show you the ten (10) digit MTCN number so that when you get back home, you write it out and send to me in case if you don't have scanner.

If you really want us to move forward, just go to the western union and do what I asked you to do. It will only take some of your time and everything will be concluded once and for all.

I look forward hearing from you.

Dear Mr Havens,

I am now feeling much stronger after my recent illness and am able to take over the reins so to speak from my wife.

Now Cecily e-mailed you a few minutes ago to pass on the message that Mr Tossov informed us that he had sent you a copy of the MTCN numbers. However, I have now seen your e-mail addressed to me with a photograph of the western union form which still has some numbers missing.

I have spoken to Mr Tossov about this and he says that these numbers were not deliberately obscured by his secretary who actually sent the photocopy to you.

Therefore Mr Tossov has accepted liability for the error on the basis of ceteris paribus and he has cancelled the western union transaction. To compensate you for the delay in completing the necessary modalities, he will issue a fresh transfer of £610.50 plus £50 [a total of £660.50]. To save time, this will be sent directly to yourself rather than to Mrs Adams.

Would you therefore telephone Mr Tossov directly on 01144 906 539 0101. This will be a free call on his personal number. He needs you to confirm that this offer is acceptable to you.

Yours sincerely,
Charles Farnes-Barnes

Dear beneficiary,

How are you Mr. Charles? I am in receipt of your email and is good to hear that you have bounce back to your normal state of health. In your email, I noted that Mr. Lonslo Tossov have canceled the initial transaction and will send a fresh one today.

Well, there is no problem if he will initiate a fresh transaction to my name or that of Cyrina Adams today, but really matters he should make sure he send the money today and forward to my email the fresh western union slip with the MTCN and other detail alteration free.

As for his offer for £50 compensation,am sorry it will not be accepted because is not necessary. The amount which is officially necessary is £610.50. Inform Mr. Lonslo Tossov not to worry about the £50 compensation and he should send to my name or Cyrina Adams only the £610.50 that is official. On a normal circumstance, we do not accept involvement of third party like Mr. Lonslo Tossov in sensitive issues like this, but it was because of your ill health that we accepted to receive the money through Mr. Lonslo Tossov and for this reason I find it very difficult to call him.

Is very important you persued him to send the money today as has wasted a lot of time which is causing so much delay in concluding this transaction. So you really need to be on Mr Lonslo Tossov to ensure he send the money today as we will not accept anymore excuse or delay from you side since you are now in a better health condition. It will be better you go to Mr. Lonslo Tossov office and handling this yourself to ensure the payment take place today.

Mr Havens,

The ball is now in your court. Either Mrs Adams or yourself have received the money or Mr Tossov is a thief.

If you believe Mr Tossov has not told the truth I can recommend an excellkent lawyer here in London who will act pro bono on your behalf. Her name is Mrs Tushie Mashuganah and you can e-mail her at tushie@hotmail.co.uk

She will not charge you for any initial consultation and if you take Mr Tossov to court she will take her fees from the settlement.

Since he has cancelled the transaction, why are you now acussing me of scam. Listen Charles, I don't want to bite around the bush as I don't have much to wast on this anymore.

Get it straight now, I am not going to wast my precious time writing or calling Mr. Tossov again. If you want to the truth about this, go to Tossov office tomorrow, demand for both the old and new western union slip which he claimed he has sent. Please do not inform him that you are coming but just go there to confirm things yourself. If he provide them to you, then send me copy by email when you get home. But if he cannot provide them to you, then hold him responsible for refund.

NOTE: WHAT I ASK YOU DO IS VERY SIMPLE AND IF YOU CANNOT DO IT, PLEASE DO NOT BORDER TO WRITE AS I WILL NOT RESPOND TO ANY OF YOUR EMAIL UNLESS YOU VISIT MR. TOSSOV OFFICE ASK I DEMANDED.

Mr Havens,

I have not accused you of any dishonesty but I do believe you should closely question Mrs Adams about this matter.

As you rightly point out, Mr Tossov did accept responsibility for the original error but he has since sent you the £610.50 and as I understand it, all you require now is the full MTCN which he informed me this morning he has sent to you.

What more can I do? Yet again, I suggest you telephone Mr Tossov on his free private line and sort things out.

Sir,

I hate been insulted and I will not insult you either. For crying out loud, the previous two western union scanned copies you sent me were obscure. First one the MTCN was covered and the second 4 digits were missing from the MTCN. On Friday, I was informed by Charles Fortescue Farnes-Barnes that you have cancelled the transaction and will send fresh one by Monday.

I don't know why you are getting angry over this issue and at the same time insulting my person. What I asked is very simple, scan copy of the western union without the MTCN obscured send to my email. You know is very simple, but I don't know why you find it difficult to comply to a simple request.

Please the situation at hand is jeopardizing my job and person status here in my office.

Dear beneficiary,

As i said before, visit Mr. Tossov office collect the western union slip from him when you come back home send me the slip. I don't why keep wasting my time over this matter. I have asked Mr. Tossov several times to send me the New western union slip to my email and he refused to do so and I am not ready to write him email or call regarding this matter again as I have no direct business with him.

Why must I keep emberacing Mrs. Adams every single day while you told me yourself that Mr. Tossov said he has cancelled the old transaction and will send the new one direct to me. If he has do so, what stopped him from sending me email attachment with the new Payment slip the way he did last time he sent those obscure old payment slips. To me, I am 100% sure that Mr. Tossov is up to something since he cannot carry out simple instruction.

For the last time, go to Mr. Tossov office and collect the new payment slip yourself or ask him to attach copy of the new western union slip and send to your email. When you receive the copy from him, then forward it to me. This is my advise to you and if you cannot do any of these, please forget writing me email because I will not respond to you. Dear beneficiary,

How are you sir?

Formally, I have decided not to write you regarding this payment. But due to another western union slip MR. TOSSOV sent to me yesterday, then I think you let you know what is going on. Like I said before, I strongly believed that Mr. Tossov is playing on our intelligent.

Remember you told me that you called Mr. Tossov and he assure you that he has canceled the old western union and will send fresh one with a compensation of 50pounds which I rejected the offer. Yesterday, Mr. Tossov send to me email the same old western union slip. Is the old western union slip that bears the same date 9th March the fresh one? Not just that, he now wrote in red with a yellow colored background PAYOUT RESTRICTION TO A PARTICULAR western union AGENT STATED BELOW. My question is why is it that it is only on the third western union slip that this payout restriction appeared? Why is it not on the first and second once he sent last week? It any of these slips in any way related to the fresh western union slip you talked about?

Listen Mr. Charles, if you know that you are not in any way connected to this, I will advise you to go to Mr. Tossov office and demand for your money 610pounds back. When you get the money back, go to a different western union outlet and send the money yourself to the name of Mrs. Cyrina Adams. After you send the money, send me email the MTCN details or scan copy of the western union slip and send the me.

NOTE: DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY THING MR. TOSSOV WILL SAY. JUST TELL HIM TO GIVE YOUR MONEY BACK THAT YOUR NO LONGER INTERESTED ON HIS SERVICES. BELIEVE ME HE WANT TO POCKET THAT MONEY FOR HIS OWN USE.

Get the MTCN or the western union slip from him and that is final.

We have been instructed by Mr Farnes-Barnes to investigate the disappearance of £610.50 which was either sent to you or purloined by Mr Tossov.

After carefully examining all the documents, I must inform you that Mr Tossov has produced overwhelming evidence that the money was sent to you via a western union transfer. HAVENS,

I haven't heard from you for a few days so perhaps you realise the game is up. You are very foolish boy and your amateur attempt at scamming simply caused much laughter. Think about it, you silly fellow - only an idiot would believe that an respected organisation would be dishing out money via e-mails. And is it likely that an international bank would only accept payment via western union?

My colleagues from the International Anti-Scam Agency have traced your e-mail and Colonel Tossov of INTERPOL will soon be knocking at your door. And we also know who your oga is and he will also be hearing from INTERPOL.
